Development of a lab-scale desalination setup
In this project area, a lab-scale desalination setup with a capacity of ca. 10 L/day is designed and constructed. This setup can be based on the membrane-based or membrane-free forward osmosis desalination process or even a combination of both approaches. The type of membranes and hydrogels that are employed in this setup should be selected according to the results of project areas 1, 2, and 3. After construction in Germany, this setup is sent to the Persian Gulf region, where its performance under real conditions, for example, real seawater desalination under local temperature and humidity is examined. The results of this project area can be considered as a basis for the design of a larger-scale desalination setup.
